Excessive oil coming out of kips valve hose on 2006 KX250?
2006kx250:
Thanks for the replies. I just now got to check back in. I have a wife that is due to have our little girl in about 2 weeks and I have a 3 year old son and also work 12 hour shifts so I stay a little busy. Anyway, back to the bike. I would just take the covers off of the KIPS and try and clean it out some and switch to the Motul but the dealer said to clean it well that I needed to remove it completely which involves removing the head so I can pull out the KIPS assembly because off the frame being so close on the front. I live in the Northwestern part of Georgia and the factory jetting is usually close but I'll definitely try and dial it in if I switch to the Motul. I did back out on the air mixture @1/2 turn more than stock and that seemed to help on the fouling plugs a little. The only reason that I went to the NGK BR8ES was because the dealer gave me them as spares. They are definitely cheaper. I can get them at the local Advance Auto parts for around 2-3 dollars. I guess it is spend a little more and get a plug that will be less prone to foul or buy 8 and spend more. I'll buy one of the recommended plugs after I get the valve cleaned out and switch oil mix. I don't think going to a "7" heat range would be good because I do ride at the local track pretty often. I think what initially caused my splooge was when I done some trail riding with my Father-in-Law and lugged it around letting him catch up. I never fouled a plug until then. On another thought I have switched my Gear oil to the Belray Gearsaver. Is anyone else used this oil and how good is it in the long haul?
Thanks Again,
Dawson

The ole gear box oil question. I run ATF type f with geart results. The gear saver from bel-ray is good stuff. I wouldn't put any thing other than ATF in my gear box. Butter smooth shifting. What county do you live in? I live in gordon county.

I don't typically get into oil discussions because everybody has their pet oil and it's the best ever. Having said that I had to weigh in on the gear oil question, The "Redline Gear Oil" is the best oil I've used, it expensive ($8 a quart) but in the long run well worth the money, your bike can sit for months, you can pull the side cover and the oil is still clinging to the walls, bearings basically everything, We use our K5's hard and with the redline the tranny runs much cooler. I've used ATF, motor oil and the likes, when you pull the side covers the oil is all at the bottom, runs off everything. As far as motor oils, there all good, not like the old days, if you find an oil readily available and you like, then use it.

I just removed the clutch cover from 500 this past weekend and the ATF was stuck to everything and the bike has been sitting for two months. Everybody has pet oils when dealing with trans oil.

No offense Hughes, but I've used ATF before, have you used redline? If you had you'd know what I'm talking about, there is no comparsion period.
