Excessive oil coming out of kips valve hose on 2006 KX250?
2006kx250:
First off Hello everyone!! I have a 2006 kx250 that I bought new in August 2006. When I first bought the bike it would blow A little of oil out of the kips hose along with a little smoke. I now only have about 15-20 hours on the bike at most. When I crank the bike and let it warm up it will blow enough oil out of the hose to make a small puddle underneath the bike and blow some oil out of the exhaust and has a good bit of smoke until I blow it out. The Bike runs really good with awesome power everywhere and seems to have real good compression. The dealer rode it and says that I may have just gooped up the powervalve when I first started riding it and that I need to pull the head so I can clean it out. They also recommend that I go ahead and at least change the ring and repack the silencer. My bike is also more sensitive to fouling plugs(BR8ES) if I don't allow it to warm up really well before taking off. When I first got the bike I mixed the Kawasaki oil 32:1 as factory reccomended but later went to mixing 40:1 because of the excessive oil. I have bought some synthetic Motul oil mix that I am going to switch to. The dealer said it would run better and have little or no smoke. Do you guys know of any other thing that could be causing this oil problem or anything I should really check out while I have it apart. Sorry for the really long message just trying to explain my ploblem well.
Thanks,
Dawson

Dawson,
Nice bike. I think what you are refering to is "spooge". This is collected unburnt oil from your 2-cycle mix. It is caused by a combination of a rich fuel/oil mixture and slightly too rich jetting. Both of these will also cause your plug fouling problem. I would suggest picking a good synthetic 2-stroke oil and sticking with it. I'm a belray MC-1 man (last 28 yrs) but the motul oil is very good. I suggest no richer that 50:1 (I run 60:1) not sure what the motul recommends. Once you have standardized on an oil and a mix, then I would suggest slowly leaning out your jetting. Once properly jetted your bike should never foul plugs. I get a season on a plug. Hope this helps. Cam.
One last tip: try a BPR8ES. The "P" projected tip runs cleaner. I run these always in my 500.

Hi. I bought a new 2005 KX250 less than two weeks ago. My bike is very similar to yours, so maybe I can help. Mine drips oil out of that hose also. I had never heard of such a thing before. I am used to digging it out later on a KDX after it is baked hard onto the power valves. Hooray for whoever came up with the hose to help some.
I am not through with the break-in procedure yet. I am currently running what the dealer put in it, which was said to be Kawasaki oil at 32:1 (which I have run for years on the KDX's). After break-in, I will be switching to Bel-Ray H1R at 40:1. Hopefully, over time, it will be cleaner on the power valve parts.
You may want to check your owner's manual (and hopefully) your service manual, to see what the stock plug is. On mine, the cheap BR8ES is not even listed. The BR8EIX is listed as an optional plug. If you do not run the engine hard, a switch to a 7 heat range plug may benefit you. I used to foul plus often on my 1994 KDX200 until I switched to a one step lower numbered heat range plug (hotter). After that, my plugs were a lovely brown color, not black and dry.
The low end plugs (BR8ES) will foul quicker than a BR8EIX plug. In my manual, it lists the BR8ECMVX (physically less tall), which is difficult to find. I know the BR8ECM (non-VX version) is $10.19 at Rocky Mountain, so you may want to check on that.
If the projected tip sticks down further into the cylinder, that may not be a good idea.
IF, IF, IF your jetting is off, then by all means, start buying some $5 jets and get to testing it.
Remember to stick with one oil and gas mixture to have as few variables as possible during testing. Also, 40:1 will allow more fuel into the engine than a 32:1 mixture. A smaller jet would keep it from taking too big of a gulp.
I hope this helps some. I will be jetting mine soon, so wish us both luck.

KDX,
I used the H1R for a season but switched back to MC-1 since it gave me less spooge. On my 92 500 I ran MC-1 (60:1) for 14 years without cleaning the powervalve. When I took it apart a barely had to clean it and had hardly any wear at all. Good oil. I know the H1-R is as good but on mine it definitely gave more spooge - even with spot on jetting. cam.

I bought a gallon of MC-1 a long time ago. A gallon was $28 if that tells when. I didn't use it long before stopping riding for years.
I will give the H1R a try. I already have a small bottle or two I had been meaning to try. I am just waiting for the break-in period to be over. I don't have much time to ride, but plenty to work on it. I'll keep an eye on it to see how the splooge goes. I'll be changing rings every 5 minutes according to the owner's manual and service manual, so I should be able to clean the splooge off. Heck, the new bike even has a splooge drain hose to help me out some! :-)
