New and Thanks for the help!!

Thanks for the help. I used this site a lot for a reference after buying this used 96? KX500. Forks leaked, shock leaked, air cleaner dry rot, pipe cracked, etc, etc. I understand it is just a dirt bike but some people just should not own them. The thing looked a miserable stock purple and green and needed much work. The motor was tight though.
Anyway we reworked all that stuff and finished yesterday putting it back together. The kid in the picture is my proud 6?3? 16 year old. First ride he came back with a big grin that made all of my efforts worthwhile.
We live at 8500 feet in Colorado and ride typically higher through the summer. That results in a minimum 25% hit on horsepower so we use size to make up for it. You should se my freaking chainsaw.
The frame is powder coated Hammertone Gray. Race-Tech springs and seals were installed. New UFO black plastic was installed. A new tall foam CEET was installed along with a new cover. An FMF turbine core 2 was installed. Everything was cleaned, polished, waxed, rubbed, shined, well you get the idea.
We need to add some graphics but here it is for you to see in the raw. I just wanted to say thanks because this site was really the only source of information worth looking at for my needs. Those needs were the nuts and bolts of a KX500 and you guys covered it. If anybody is heading to the Rockies PM me and we will show you gods country for payback! Thanks, Mike

Hey that sounds like my bike.  I don't think the previous owner ever changed the oil and I'm finishing up a ground up restoration.  Beautiful bike...congrats!

Welcome and awesome work on the ride!  Where are you at in CO?  I am in Cheyenne and have had a chance to ride Rampart Range and the Book Cliffs down in Grand Junction.  Some good ridin' down your way.

Nice Scooter.  My 14 year old likes to ride my 500 up hills, but not much else.  Says he doesn't like the vibration...what vibration??

Thanks for the compliments. We are in Bailey, CO. Rampart is about 30 minutes away. We mostly ride Taylor Park though. This year the Flat Tops and several other areas are on our list. Moab is our annual Spring Break trip.
