  The Idea was to improve oiling, however there was a substantial amount of holes drilled in the basket.

Dont really lose bottom end per say, its still there, you just lose that weight buffer that keeps you from stalling when you let off the gas and the motor reacts a lot more quickly to changes. Its just a lot more touchy. I have an RD350 engine with the whole flywheel lathed away down to a nub (requires a battery to run!). The builder was scared the generator would fly apart at the revs we built it to run. The crank and clutch basket mean the engine isn't near as bad as you would think. It revs beautifully though :D
