monster malibu:
I'm looking for pictures of your 500's to get some ideas to use on my 87 KX 500. My bike is in excellant running shape, it just needs some cosmetic work. The plastic and seat are faded, peeling paint on motor, minor rust on frame.                                                     I plan on the following, 92-93 KX250 rear fender swap, 04 foot pegs, front fender, and kick start lever, IMS oversized gas tank, ALL BALLS bearing sets, frame and swing arm repowder coated, anodizing of wheels and other aluminum parts. I want to keep this bike and make it look as good as it runs. I want to swap the forks for newer ones, but don't know what year bike to get them from. Anybody got any other ideas?

CAduner:
I to have a 87' K5 and absolutly love the bike.  My bike sounds like it is in the same condition as yours, perfectly running but not perfectly looking.  I think that forks from a 92-93' K5 will work, you can always rebuild the old ones(that way it will look like a bomber class bike from hell).  As far as everything else it sounds like you are on the right track.  Hughes has a bunch of pic from his 87' that he re-built.  Good luck!

I'm looking for pics of all the KX500's, I wanted to also see how many guys have older 500's and what they've done to them. My plan is to get the bike mechanicly sound and looking good, then show it to the previous owner. When I got it the owner expected it to  be dead by next year, I'll proove him wrong!!! Hopefully

You got a long list of items there. You'll need to make new brackets for the foot pegs to use new style pegs. Here a drawing of the brackets from KXCAM22 gallery. He has more info listed under his photo's of "Build your own kick stand"
http://www.kxriders.com/coppermine/displayimage.php?album=50&pos=10 I used this drawing for my brackets worked great. Under the sticky you'll find part info for the 87 500. Get some pricing on the aondizing of the wheels. Rockymountainavtmc.com has front/rear wheels with stainless spokes kits for only 269.00 that front and rear wheels with new spokes. Order a kick starter for an 04 kx500 it has been updated. Here's a photo of what my new shroud decals will look like. They are going to run about 100.00 bucks because they are going to charge around 20.00-30.00 to make templates off my shrouds. Go to allballsracing.com they have every bearing for the 87 500.
