My crappy worn out 89' KX500
HonsRacing:
Hi, Just wanted to say that this is a pretty sweet site. I wanted to post some stuff about my bike just to see what you guys thought lol. I have a 89' KX500 with a slightly dented fmf pipe w/ the silencer. It has a 4'' over swing arm. I also have brand new V-Force Reeds in it. It has been resleeved to .5mm over(14cc increase?) but i had to steal the old rings off of my brother's stock 500. So the rings are .5mm too small haha. I have a light weight flywheel(not sure how light). It has been jetted The bottom end seems to be going out because it rattles like crazy(way more than my brothers 94' kx500). Funny thing is that my bike is still faster than my brother's kx5(newly resleeved w/ new piston) unless i lose traction, then he is riding wheelies past me haha. My friend's cr500(1.5mm over piston but pretty rough cylinder walls and piston) but he still cant keep up. Id like to see your comments as to what you think. It's still a pretty bad a$$ machine. I plan to go up to 1mm over and rebuild the bottom end. Cant wait for that!

Sounds cool. The vibration, as I'm sure you know comes as standard equipment on the KX! My 94 was pretty rough and turned out to be a worn crank jounal. I replaced that and it's much nicer. I also suppose that with the light flywheel you'll get alot more vibration. I run a Steahly 14oz weight on mine and it removes quite a bit of the vibes. You've got a great bike. It just needs some money! I had mine bored 2mm over which is approximately 520cc and I like it so far.

Im sure theres lots of life left in it,start working on it and have fun!

i realize the vibrations are part of the kx500's but this is some serious vibrations after riding it for like 15 minutes your forearms are worn out. im 6'3'' 230lbs and pretty strong and its hard for me to hold on in the motocross courses. My suspension is screwed too so that doesnt help haha. thanks for the imput.

crank needs to be trued and bearings replaced. If you keep riding it the bearings could oblong the steel where the bearings press into. Bottom line is you better look into to it quick.
