Weld a KX500 header to the CR500 pipe. You may also have to provide some additional clearance on the pipe for the water pump hose or you could invert the cylinder hose connection and use a Service Honda hose. It's a "U" shape near the cylinder connection instead of the stock straight hose and moves the hose more to the front of the bike providing more clearance. As far as any frame issues go on the steel frame with the CR500 pipe for mounting mods or clearance issues I can't help you with that question.

thanks kxpegger. as far as i am aware the service kx500af pipe is just a cr500 pipe with mods any way. can i ask if you used a cr500 pipe on your af. can you recomend a manufacturer for the cr500 pipe.
many thanks
john

I used a CR500 pipe and modded it, I've also used a KX500 pipe and modded it and I've used the service Honda pipe, performance wise there isn't a nickels worth of difference.

ZETTNORCAL:
Service Honda machines the cyl. where the water port is on the KX500af's to make the port tighter to the cyl.  If you look at the cyl. casting it looks like they have taken off about 10mm for more pipe to cyl . clearance as well as inverting the same port.  So if you buy one of their pipes and think that it will solve that water port issue  it won't.

The fmf that they sell is modded some in that area but will still need to be dented in unless you do some machine work on the cylinder like they did.

I think that the PC pipe is a better fit than the FMF any way.     I used the PC cr5 pipe with the k5 inlet and then put a HUGE dent in it for the water port.   I can say that is not the way to do it.

If you look close you can see the HUGE dent.   Also check out the part of the cylinder that could be machined for a tighter fit.

thanks don and zett. don, can i ask how you mounted the cr pipe to the 02 chassis was there much work and did you have to move the mounts on the pipe.
i think i am going to go with the cr 500 pipe and muffler and modify it. i think i can do it for half the price of the S.H.
i will be doing the cylinder machining
are you saying the pc pipe is the best. zett
thanks all
john
