To grease or not to grease
PowerFiend:
I grease with the NoToil grease. I use this filter oil also.
Note that you can not use this on UNI filters, it breaks down the glue and they fall apart.
I use Twin Air, NoToil, or stock filters without issue. This filter oil also doesn't seem to like sitting for long periods, so I suggest re-cleaning after storage.
Maxima FFT otherwise with standard grease, but cleaning is a pain.

for sure. i greese up the lip on my filter. i use bel ray water proof greese and no mater what as long as i ride i will continue to greese my seal around my air filter lip
lumpy790:
I do NOT grease the filter lip.
back in the day.......we greased because the filters did not seal well against the air box and when the filter pulled away it allowed dirt to drop in. But with the more modern cage, bolted on designs there really is no reason to do it any more.
Can you pull on the inside edge of your filter and pull it out from under the cage? If you cant greasing does nothing but make a mess.
I do however use good air filter oil. I like Bel Ray. I also have 2 spackle tubs.....one for diesel fuel to clean the oil out of the filter (and wash with Polmolive dish soap) and one with filter oil in it so the filter is saturated.....then squeeze the excess back in the tub and pop the lid back on for the next time. I cut the BelRay filter oil it slightly with gas to thin in out some.
