To grease or not to grease

(1/7) > >>

KXcam22:
I am a faithfull air filter lip seal greaser.  Lately I have read in a few magazines that they don't do this anymore.  I am not sure why.  Friday I went on an epic ride and spent all day as the tailend in a line of 5 bikes, clouds of blinding silty dust (I was most experienced at dust riding so volunteered to be at the end).  When I cleaned my filter that night it was of course completely poluted with caked dust but delightfully pristine inside.  My question is, How many here grease their filter lip seals or am I old school. Curious Cam.

ps I even grease the seal on my truck filter. :-D

i view the lip seal greasing as a sort of double protection. if you can protect your engine a little more by greasing the seal why not? i use a silicone o-ring & seal lube on mine that is super sticky too protect against sand intrusion. it doesn't wash off when you clean the filter so i don't worry about the silicone contaminating the filter. i also use pantyhose material over the airbox intake as a precaution.   MADDOGGY

I will always grease the filter lip. I guess I'm old school too.
