We have a Lexmark color printer that has never really worked well.  Replaced it with an HP laser (black only) that works very well.  HP is pretty well respected in printers.

Sounds like you're a decent candidate for a 3 in one machine.  They're OK for general messing around.  If you get into printing digital photos you may want to get a more specialized machine.

I'll second everyone elses opinions on the HP stuff, my Laserjet 4 Plus was new in 1995 and it still works flawlessly. I can't comment on the Lexmarks though, no experience.

I would stay away from the lexmarks.  If I were you i would purchase the HP 2110.  Should do everything you need and last you awhile.  I only buy hp printers at work and usually will only buy recommend them for clients I consult for.  Good luck and welcome to computing.  Feel free to ask more questions as I am sure Paul has some skills cuz he keeps this site up and running.......  By the way thanks Paul!

Keeping this place running is the easy part, filling it full of great information is the hard part. You guys have the great info, I just have a place to put it :D

Thanks for the props, but I get enough congratulations when I see something that sounds kinda cool that you guys have come up with - like that cool ass way to mount the pipe guard OR someone elses recommendation to change the thickness of the o-ring on the countershaft to stop that d**n leaking. If anyone deserves the thanks around here its you guys for the awesome information you provide. Keep it up, we're pretty much it for information on the beast  8)
