KX250 cylinder barrel woes re-sleeve/re-plate

(1/3) > >>

swordcombat:
So upon inspection of my Kx250 1999 cylinder barrel it needs to be fixed
But has a sleeve in it , so been repaired before , now i heard sleeving is not the best option.
So i was wondering if to buy a barrel that just needs plating , or have mine bored out with a bigger piston?
Now to have my barrel vapour blasted and re sleeve is £175.00 here in UK

a used barrel from a breakers is £100.00 plus then the cost of a replate.

Advice would be very helpfull please

Foxx4Beaver:
probably not an option for you...but if you can swing it...I myself would buy a brand new jug from Kawie, then do with it what I want.

sandblaster:
There is nothing wrong with sleeves.
They won't last as long as a plated cylinder but you can bore them out once they are worn.
The only other negative is you need to give them a bit more warm up time so that the two dissimilar metals have a chance to normalize.
I would bore it out and ride it.
One last thing you can do, when it's time for the last bore size, have it bored and plated.
Then you will have the largest piston size with a plated cylinder that will last and last.
Just remember to let it warm up and your good to go.

And, Fox's comment on a new cylinder is a nice way to go as well... It's only money  :-D

Why not bore you barrel if it got a sleeve already? has to be the cheapest option

swordcombat:
Yeah a new cylinder from Kawasaki is £465.00 GBP
Seems pricey too me , though there is a brand new one on ebay for 1994 kx250
But i would probably need to buy new power valves and what not.

Well some companys here in UK just moan and bitch about everything , apparently i cant send of my crank with and OEM con rod , i have to buy the s**tty mitaka con rod from them.

Also places with only either re sleeve or remove the cylinder and replate plus you have yo buy there supplied piston which is either s**tty proX or mitaka , as apparently they are just as good as wossner LOL! Yea right im sure they are.
