New guy here, from PA
« on: September 02, 2011, 10:54:42 PM »
My names Mike, Im from Pottsville, Pennsylvania, and own a 1990 KX500. Picked it up last april for $1400, off of the original owner. Came with a title and all.
I have about 7 bikes in my garage right now, maybe 2 or 3 more in parts, and have been riding bigbores since I was 14.
My first bike was an 85 IT200, and it was such a good bike that I have owned 5 of them since, and my basement is full of parts for that particular bike. Never owned a kawasaki before the K5, or even a water pumper 500 for that matter. Needless to say after I threw a leg over the K5 and took it up a few hills I was hooked. The bike came with a tyre that was made for a 250F, and it would still rocket up hills that 450s wouldn't make it up. Just amazed the heck out of me.

The K5 is easily one of my favorite bikes, I'm sure all of you guys that have one can't wipe the smile off of your face when you ride it.
Heres a few pictures of what I have, kinda large, but you get more detail right?

86 IT200 (84 frontend)

Garage queen 82 IT250 (416 original miles)

Heres the K5 the first day I took it out

81 IT125 and 86 TT350 (only 4 stroke I ever had and I don't ride it) Both all original and in good condition

87 YZ490, 86 IT200 (same one as the first picture), and an 81 IT465 lurking in the background

And here is my current race bike, an 09 KTM200xc. Its one of the quickest bikes I ever rode in a harescramble.

Well there you go... as you can see I love air cooled yamahas, but I'm working on my K5 collection.

Nice bunch of ITs! I used to race a 84 IT490 occasionally. The 82 250 is very nice! Ive got a bunch of PE400s and a 84 red KDX200 project as well as my modern KXs. Are you near New Philadelphia, by rt 61? If so, Ive ridden the Reading enduro up in that area and RORR dualsport. Welcome to the site!
A couple of 03 and 04 KXs, a few YZs, 3 PE 400s, a DR and a TS.

The 490L is the IT that has always eluded me... Almost bought one twice but got screwed both times. Yes, I live right across the mountain from new philly. Never rode in an enduro so I'm not familiar with those trails. But I guarantee you that I've ridden on them. I rode on the RROR single track trails already, but not in that area, more towards duncott and wadesville.

There is a guy that is selling a super clean 81 IT465 with a NJ title. I just saw it on one of the vintage bike swap meet sites. Id love to get it but funds are a little tight at the moment. Do you go to York for the vintage shows? There is a good one in Hammonton NJ this fall with a vintage friendly mx track.

No... every time the swapmeet is going on in york I seem to have to work the whole time. I wouldn't buy anything as most of its overpriced, but I like to go there to just look at the bikes.

And if that 81 465 has a weird paintjob on the side covers dont buy it... its been on there for 3 years. Something has to be wrong with it. I called this particular guy 2 years ago and he was a prick to tell you the truth... I still see the bike for sale from time to time... wants like 2 grand for it or so. It has a NJ street title... Only problem is its restored and I tend to stay away from those unless I personally know the guy that did it.
