Great to be back on a kx500!!!!
« on: April 26, 2011, 12:43:10 PM »
Hi everyone! I recently bought a 1999 kx500 after selling my 86 cr500. I like the k5 alot more all around. I rode it for a week and figured id do a compression check. It read 120psi. So i tore it down the same evening to discover worn plating on the intake side. So i sent the cylinder to powersealusa they done an incredible job, got wiseco top end kit and bearing, cometic gaskets and the oem thicker head gasket. Cleaned all powervalve parts and put it all back together and broke it in. The bike runs better than before but seems like a smoother hit must be the gasket talkin. Only thing is the bike wont idle anymore. I posted a question about it.  Kx500 forever!!!

Agree that its nice to be back on a KX. I started to race last summer after a short brake (20years..) Really like to go to the track and race!

I always liked the way my friends CR500 handled at the track compared to my K5 but in every other aspect my KX was faster and no headshake was important to me when heading down a road or even on hardpack so congrats on the bike.
Just an old guy that enjoys going fast, I was in the army for 6 years and bought my first K5 when I returned from basic training. I raced a yz60 from age 6 to 8  a kx80 from 8 to 12  a kx125 from 12-17 intermediate class on k5 which I've owned 3.
