New to KX
« on: March 28, 2011, 03:05:08 AM »
Hi, my name is Carl,I live in Bakersfield CA. I have a question about 1987 Kawasaki KX's. I am looking for a 1987 KX 125 frame,I have a bent frame and need a new one.I found a 1987 KX 500 frame, with swingarm and shock.I was told by a very helpful guy at OEM the swingarm for the KX 125 only fits the 125. So if I use a KX 500 frame with complete rearend, will the 125 bolt in and everything else from the 125 also? Thanks You.

I am a Big Bore 2 Stroke enthusiast. I own 3 KDX 400's,and think it's a great allaround bike. I always wanted a KX 500,but haven't had one fall in my lap yet.I am partial to the 1983 and 84 KX 500 due to looks only.My favorite bikes are my KTM's. I also recently picked up two 1985 Honda CR 500's and plan on experiencing the 85/86 CR 500 hype soon.

Thanks,Carl in Bak.

Anyone here from Bakersfield?

 Hey Carl,
Welcome to the site.  There are quite a few KX/CR owners here,  there is just alot less attitude than what you might find at other forums!

Here is a link to my Yahoo Flickr photos page.Just loaded the CR pics, but they are nothing to look at yet. One is spray painted black, but complete and running, just needs the water pump gasket kit installed,(have it). The other is a complete roller with nice everything.
Hope the link works. Check out the 1980 KDX 400 I picked up last year.

On the frame swap,I saw a post here-1987 KX 500 parting out- the frame splits in front of the exhaust at the head like the 86 KX's and will not work. The 87 KX 125 has a straight downtube to the bottom of the frame.

Never been to San Diego.Dunes sound fun though.

Welcome aboard!

I grew up in Paso Robles. My old high school buddy lives in Bakersfield and is a supervisor for AERA. One my sisters lives in Visalia.

I 've been in Las Vegas now for 12 years and like it here! Lot's of good riding with a wide variation in terrain all within about 15-45 minutes of Vegas.

Lot's of good 500 info here!

Thanks. I always wanted to ride in L.V.
I have family in Visalia too. We're running out of places to ride in Bakersfield.Going up to Isabella area/Walker Pass this weekend for a ride.I saw the tip of Mount Whitney last time we went. I think we were at about 8000 ft. Took the 80 KDX 400.First ride on it,ran great.Need to lube the speedo cable. After 80 miles,it was chirpin like a mouse.
Wish I would have had a camera.
Later,Carl

Nice KDX! Thats one of the bikes I want to add to my vintage bigbore collection. Ive got a couple of PE400s and a red 84 KDX200 so far. You dont see many of those Datsun pickups on the road anymore! I havent seen one in maybe 15-20 years! My dad bought one new in 76, a yellow long bed.
A couple of 03 and 04 KXs, a few YZs, 3 PE 400s, a DR and a TS.

I'm not trying to be an ars, but the '87 125 downtube split above the exhaust port. This was one of the things that was different from the '85 and '86.

Thanks,Fyin Hawaiian.I got to ride a PE400 when I was 15/16.Wasn't what I was into back then, but I will pick one up if it falls in my lap for sure.I remember the front end wanted to be in the air alot.A KDX 400 and PE 400 shootout would be cool. How bout a pic of a RED KDX?
I got a guy coming from Puhrump N.V. to pick up the Datsun Monday.Hate to see her go,but I need to get my DR back on the road, and or what I really want now is an 80's Toyota 4x4.(The Maico 700cc 2 Stroke will have to wait)
Ahh Tehachapi.... Class of 87 here. Just heard tonight they have been putting in the paper "no riding in Teh allowed",is that true? I loved growing up there, walking out to the garage and firing up and taking off. I heard they are shutting down a track in Mojave too.Got to ride Cashe Creek a few years ago.We have been going to the aquaduct out in Tutman the past few years. No rangers.I see alot of Taft riding on You tube, but never been. Next time I go to the Back side of Isabella I'll give a shout out.
Long Live The Marines

That darn KX.It's my buddies bike.I need to go out and look at it again.
You are right Kawboy.
