I knew this would happen...
« on: March 02, 2011, 06:35:50 PM »
New member here and was recruited by a fellow member of at GlamisDunes.com when I had a few questions about doing a big bore on my 98 KX250.  Well, I signed up, I searched, I lurked, and now it looks like I'm going to be getting a 500 to add to the collection.  Not my first 500, but my first KX500.  Never fails.  I've got to stop signing up on these boards...

Anyway, I a Marine, I live in SoCal, and I ride a 98 KX250 and soon a 90 KX500.  I also have a ZX9R, a few early GSXR's, a couple CB's, a Harley, and...  Well you get the idea.

I'm mostly an Ocotillo guy when I'm in the country long enough to get there.  Was just out over Presidents Day though and except for rain on Friday night, it was actually a very good weekend - and nothing broke!!!

Can't wait to get back on a 500 again...  The bike I'm looking to get is actually from another SoCal local member here and needs a little work.  Turns out I had a bike sitting in my garage that is in about the same situation, and just happens to be the type of bike he was looking for - so a trade will work out for both of us.  The bike is listed in the classifieds here:  http://www.kxriders.com/forums/index.php/topic,8781.msg68193.html#msg68193

I am mostly at plaster city... as I race out there....

I have been to ocotillo wells once... (was about 4 weeks ago)... and plan on making a trip weekend of the 18th...

Unfortunatly my K5 is still spread all over the garage.. Im hoping I will have it together for the trip... but its starting to look more and more like it wont be... as Im still waiting on some key parts to get done..

But I have plenty of other bikes to ride... so wont keep me from going out.

Same here, never hurts to have a backup bike or two.  It will take me a little while to get the K5 up I think so it likley won't be a go until next season.  In the meantime, my 250 and 450 will have to do.  I actually have a 99 250 chassis and was thinking about putting a 500 motor in there.  I just don't want to break a complete K5 to do it though.  What year K5 do you have and what are you doing to it?

I had the bike all 100% together and finished "restoring" etc... its a 1991 ex team green bike (was one of jeff wards)... 2008 Kx450 front end, etc etc..

Had it out on thanksgiving, and unfortunatly the motor let go after only 2gal of fuel... (small end bearing)..

So going through the motor... and making some improvements along the way as well...

Get a few more posts, and a "engine modifications" section will show up you can get into... that has many interesting motor builds in there... (including the one im doing right now)..

Poke around enough.. you can find some good info on this site... and even better people..

this was thanksgiving at plaster city... before the 2gal of fuel..

Nice, I like the seat - very 80's.  Hey what tank/shroud combo are you using?  I've seen it before and like the updated look.

It is a Zip-Ty tank, and pipe... shrouds are 2000 Kx250 (so is rear fender)

I like it, but couldn't find the tank or pipe listed on the site.  I'm sure it's still in production isn't it?
