Just bought a low-hour 2004 KX500 for $1500, looks like previous owner (original purchaser) used it very little, has original tires and chain and sprockets still on it.
Came with Statement Of Origin, needed that so I can title it in South Dakota.
Can't wait to ride it in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Now if I can just find a downloadable service manual for it....

Welcome to KXriders.
As far as I know the service manuals are copyrighted so I don't think there would be any free ones available.
However, there may be members who have copied a few pages that may be able to help.
Then again, I could be all washed up.
I'm sure someone out there will correct me

yeah sand blaster is right, i tried to find a manual and all i kept geting was sites you would want to be caught looking at lol. i  bought 1 off ebay in the end, used but will do the job. sounds like you stole that bike, theres another thread going at the moment with a 99 and an 03 in the u.k for ?2500 and ?3000, and an 04 in the u.s for $4500. that makes your $1500 for an 04 look very good indeed. we would love to see some piccys of her

 The guys are right, there are downloadable and cd "For Pay" sites, but there are usually some pretty good deals on used copies for half the price (or Less) of new.
   It will be money well spent, either the Clymer or the Kawasaki FSM (Factory Service manual)

  There is one more bit of advice every new 500 owner picks up on pretty quick...
      Throttle control...
   Take it easy for a while and you'll soon see these are great bikes.  They may not be the best at any one discipline... but with a few mods specific to what you want, they can hold there own just about anywhere and do it dependably.

I was unbelievably lucky to get a good deal, as 99% of anything I buy used I take a real beating on - always find it it's junk when I get it home. Thankfully not this time.

Second KX500 I've owned, first was an air-cooled one with a mechanical disc brake in the front, which of course no longer worked (whoa!). Owned many two-strokes over the years.
My current favorite dirt bike is also a two-stroke, a GasGas TXT300Pro trials bike.
If any of you have yet to ride one, you'll be amazed - it only weighs 145 pounds.

Also have two two-stroke snowmobiles, and three two-stroke jet skies.
Lotsa 2-smokers in my garage......

Sweet bike. Holy crap. What a deal... you're gonna be happy with that. The 500 will be like turning a sled compared to the trials bike. A 500 will straight wear you out, when you try to really whip them around through any tight stuff. They like going straight and fast, though, and will not bog on the bottom. Its wicked, and safer at the same time when you run the grunt power. What would bog a smaller bike, makes a 500 eat. Welcome to the site......

I don't think the PO rode that bike, at all.
