kx500 Engine WHAT YEAR IS IT?
Speedway73:
'86-'87. Bolt on water fitting on the head = the heads from newer years won't interchange. Got the wrong partial ignition on it too. Should have an external flywheel...not an internal rotor. Also....looks like a front sprocket held on by a nut= '88+ were held on by an external circlip.

don46:
The vintage of 86-88 look the same, the clutch is different between the years, and if you use a nut to hold the counter shaft sprocket it is either 86 or 87 pull the clutch cover and get a picture of the clutch, I think 86 had 5 springs and a different release mechanism than the 87. not sure about the 84x86 but stroke is 86 and bore is 86. If you can get a complete ignition from basically any kx500 from 86-2004 it would work, but like I say complete.
