Greetings from NorCal.
I'm glad to be an owner of a new to me '99 KX500.
It came pretty much loaded with extras.
I traded a Honda 4-stroke trail bike for it.
The PO had just bought it as his first bike and soon realized it was a mistake.
I found this site when I started looking for a 500. It was very helpful.
I had it out this weekend for the first time and had a blast. Smiled ear to ear when I opened it up.
I trail ride at 5000 to 7000 feet and had to play around with the jetting.
The main jet it came with was a 185, but I yanked that and started with a 162.
After adjusting the needle clip to the top, I think I'm pretty close now. Maybe a size or two down on the pilot still.
I also put my spare 18" KDX wheel on it. Worked like a champ.
I definitely will put some brush guards on. I had the front brake lever actuated by trees twice today. That stops you in a hurry.
Pictures below are the new bike; it's posse (2000 KDX220 and 1987 KDX200); and it's older brother (1984 KX500 that I bought new).
I rode the '84 hard back in the day and I still take it out once in a while, but I wanted something newer.
I guess you can tell that I'm partial to green 2-strokes. That all started with a KDX175.
