So I was surfin the web looking for KX500 info, the bike I always wanted, and found this place! This place made me want one even worse! I've been lurking for weeks. Then for some reason my wife gave me the green light to buy one. So here I am.

I ended up buying the first one I rode. I may have paid a little too much for a 93 ($1400) but the guy had everything to go with it and it was in really good shape. New parts all over it and a fresh motor with all of the reciepts, new boots, pants, jersey, helmet as well. Also two pro circuit pipes 1 & 2, stock and desert tank, skidplate, fat handlebars, barkers, two stands, tiedowns...

I have alot to learn about this bike. One thing I noticed was how little has changed on this bike and the afterlife since it they stopped making them. I hope this  means parts will be readily available for many years. I would like to see the aftermaket make fuel injection, and oil injection at the bearings... stuff like that. I want to see someone make a twin or a tripple out of the kx500 top end. Imagine a 1500cc fuel injected, tripple making over 200 horsepower!

I need you to do my buying. That's a lot of stuff for 1400. Welcome. EFI on snowmachines is where bikes would have been. AMA should be overthrown.

 Hey NC,
It sounds like you Stole that bike, Piccy's would verify that for sure... The Items that came with the bike as "Extras" are well in excess of the $1400.00 price tag!
What kind of riding do you primarily enjoy and where on the planet do you reside...
Welcome to the best little site on the web!

I am in Boise. I am just getting back into riding after 25 years. I have a WR500 that is pretty fun as well. So far I've been taking my son to a place called little gem cycle park with him on his pw80. I just put together a 95 YZ80 I bought for $200 that was all in pieces. So he's getting used to that.

I just ride up and down the hillsides while keeping an eye on him. When he is better we will venture out more.

BTW I think I have an after market subframe on the KX. It has square tubing.

good running 1000 twins run around 200-230hp and 1500cc tripples run around 300-315hp.

Hey Neckcrank I was glad to hear you are from Boise, I am from Blackfoot, ID, if you still don't know where I'm from look at a map, the east side of the state. KXRIDERS is holding a ride next year at St. Anthony, ID in June, please be there these people are coming from all over. St Anthony is worth the drive, if your schedule allows. This is the event of all time, like the revolutionary war, be there. We will ride. This is a worldwide website good to know you are that close.

Uncle Rico: "Grandma took a little spill at the sand dunes today. Broke her coccyx."

"Heck yes" neckcrank that's the place.

So, we're pretty much friends by now, right?  So, you got my back and everything, right?

Ok. Yeah I missed that,,,I couldn't hear your Pedro accent. By the way Preston is another good place to ride the KX, or sell plastic kitchenware.

I forgot to mention this thing has a fresh big bore 88mm kit from Kustom Kraft and a RAD valve setup.

I'm a little concerned if he overheated the new motor though. After reading here I checked the coolant level which appeared full. But after a short test ride the top end seemed really hot. I noticed the hose from the head to the radiator was a piece of straight that was kinked pretty bad. After buying the OEM hose I drained the coolant and only measured less than a qt. and installed the new hose. I refilled and bled the air from the head and nearly doubled the amount going back in. I think I should check the compression. I've never done this before though. So I hope to learn how to do all of these tests for 2 strokes.

Have been to Hemmingway Butte? It is out before Murphy.  There is some fun riding out there.
