New around here
« on: April 06, 2010, 10:58:36 PM »
Hey there im chris, I just bought me a 97 KX 500 this weekend. Just got a few questions on it. The rear shock is blown is that something i could fix myself or should i send it out? I'm around 210 to 215 pounds in gear, should the bike be resprung for my weight? I have no idea where these things are at stock thats why im asking. The bike needs some work, i need to put a new rear fender and silencer on it ( who would have thought you would go over backwards on a 500) but other than that shes in good shape. I cant wait to run this bike it feels like a powerhouse, i couldnt ride much because of the silencer or lack of one. Its a little too loud for me. And another thing i was wondering was if theres anybody here from south carolina. I'm new to this area, im in the marine corps, and i dont know about places to ride in south carolina near where im at
Thanks
Chris

Welcome Chris,
There are several sites dedicated to suspension that may be able to answer your question on how to figure what spring rate you'll need and how to set up your bike's suspension.

    http://www.factorypro.com/tech/Suspension_Setting.html

Finding a service manual would be a great help also.
a member near you that can meet up and go through some of this stuff is a great Idea.
