Another New Guy, from Utah this time
« on: March 22, 2010, 03:02:19 AM »
Hi All,
I`m a new guy to this site and would like to thank the Adim for the welcome.
I am a 43 year old rider that was brought up on a yz80 and 125 at the track.
I know- boo  hiss- but that was the late 70`s early 80`s and this is now.
I have been in love with my 91 kx500 for about 5 or 7 years now.
The years seem to run together alot faster the older I get.
I bought it and it had been modified with a 96 front end and a strange carb bowl set up,
no jets but the bowl has been drilled and tapped, so turning the screws is like changin the jets.
I have ta say I hate that set up and am waitin for some jets to come in the mail for a old pj carb I
have layin around.
Pro circut works pipe and I had ta sleeve it.

Thanks again for the welcome, hope you had a great time in Dallas.

Welcome C.O.B.,
You're in good company,I think that username could be tagged on to about 80% of the current establishment!
I have a few left over parts to a P.J. if your interested. Choke/Idle assy. cap, spring etc.
What exactly do you need to get that thing back to working status?  This group has been more than generous to me and I am certainly no one special.  Maybe there is something you would be able to barter for/with to sweeten up a deal.  Throw out a feeler in the wanted thread and see if you get any other bites.

tell ya what tuck, I got everything I need for the ol pj, even bought some jets, a 168 and a 165 main, there was a 175 in there. Also bought a 55 and a 58 pilot.
What I really want some help with is understanding the bowl on the pwk that came with the bike.
I will do my best with my limited knowage of the computer to get some pictures on here. The bowl was drilled and tapped then there is a passage way from these new ports to the pilot and main jet passages. Turning the screws is like changing the jets, I think. There`s also one that is ported to the back of the carb, behind the slide that looks like it feeds fuel to the system before the slide , which by the way is a # 7.
I would like to just get rid of this set up and run jets in the pwk if that is possible.
I want to know if the bowl off a pj will fit and work on a pwk if ya know that it would be helpful.
It fits on there but I don`t know if there are clearance issuses, ya know?
Thank you for makin a guy feel welcome here again tuck :-D
The writing next to the screws means m=main passage and p= pilot passage.
The one that is not marked runs to the back of the bowl which went to the back of the carb.

 C.O.B,
The bowl as I remember will fit.  I'm pretty sure I swapped everything around several times with no ill effect.
I will cross referance the part #'s and get back to you to be sure.

That certainly is interesting...   Maybe someone else has seen something like that.
Or else you got that 100 MPG carburator that someone let out of the secret test facility...

   Here's the PWK's http://www.sudco.com/Diagrams323728/exppwk.gif   #4  is PN#018-502
   Here's The PJ  http://www.sudco.com/Diagrams323728/exppj.gif     #26 is the bowl PN# 018-006

The difference is the overflow outlet barb is in a different position on the carb bowl.

 Catch you later,
   Tuck\o/

Right on Tuck ol boy, thanks for the info.
I did the bowl swap and with a 168 main and a 58 pilot I kicked til my skinny leg was ready ta fall off.
It would not start, I wonder what else was done ta that pwk when the guy put the homemade dail-a-jet in it.
Inquiring minds want ta know.
It`s truely apprecaited for the bowl input.
But, I am still wondeing, have you ever seen a set up like that?

Good one, 100 mpg carb  lmao.
Keep the rocks on the road and out of your butt.

I`m out 4 now

 Hey Crazy 'Ol,
There's no tellin what else has been done to that carb, You might start looking for a replacement body.
I see you put another feeler out on it, let's see if we get any bites..
Since the  bowl will fit a PJ,PWK,and PWK Airstryker, you might think about a replacement if there is any other
  suspicious  marks on the carb.
I hate to have to begin a no start condition not knowing the carby is 100%.
