Hey everyone, my name is kyle I live in NY. I have been riding since I was 4 yrs old and loved every min of it. well the bikes i have had were mostly kawasaki i had 1 rm 125, yz 125 and i got my first thumper i forgot the year i think it was a 01? first year for the yz 250F. anyways i blew that one up back in 2004 and got out of riding mx. a friend of mine has a bunch of bikes and we would go out all the time on his CR500s ( he has 4 of them) anyways after i blew my yamaha up and saw how much it was gonna be to fix it I parts it out on ebay and bought my first brand new  2005 ZX6R Ninja. I kept that till last feb when i traded her in for a yamaha warrior xv. i put on just over 22k on it and she was starting to get a little noisy so i traded it in for a bike that had only 1700 miles on it. plus i like it.. anyway i turn 25 this feb and I never forgot how much i missed riding dirt so the day after my birthday i went to work and was telling a guy i want another dirtbike and he said his friend had a 00 kx 250.  i looked at it and it was in MINT cond. the dude got it brand new took it around the field a few times and put it in the back of the barn and never touched it again. so i picked her up for 1500 bucks and got it home changed the fuel clean the carb, airfilter plug ect. and she started in 3 kicks. A week later my friend comes over and see's it in the garage and says i kinda wanna get one now. he rides a VTX(street)  so we went online and found a 92 kx 500. and the next day its in my basement and we are pulling her apart to make her new again. except im having a real real hard time getting the swing arm shaft out. got any ideas? anyways I always loved motocross and i missed it alot so now im back in the game. my plans are to do some woods racing.. um. hmm not sure what else to say besides i love drinking beers, women, motorcycles and rock N roll. hit me up im always waiting for ppl to talk  motors with me or got any cool ideas im all ears.

Welcome to the site. There is a lot of knowledgeable people on here. Feel free to dive in with thoughts or questions. Enjoy. I'm sure someone will chime in with some pointers on the swing arm shaft issue. I would try a punch and hammer. Just be careful not to damaging the threads. May have to apply a little heat. Sounds like the bearings are rusted to the bolt. Hope this helps.

Cheers

 Welcome Kyle,
Those swingarm bolts have been known to drive old men mad and young guys to an earlie grave...
Well, something like that...  When the bikes leave the factory there seems barely enough grease in the linkage to get them off the showroom floor, add a few years of riding and maybe a pressure washer and those puppies get flat out stuck.  Rust, dirt and likely the remnants of needle bearings.

There are some specialty tools made to press or pull out the bolts.  I have  mixed up a solution of 50/50 of acetone and atf  (or your favorite penetrating oil/fluid)  and soaked and beat and soak.

Keeping the threads from mushrooming out is always a concern, so if you can get it to budge with the nut or possibly a rod coupling. A punch to get started inside the swing arm and then a piece of rod to get it through the rest of the way.

Of course if you have a large press, or air hammer.   Probably the most civilized way to go is to find a machine shop and have it pressed out.
I think you can see these things can be a formidable opponant.
I will snoop around for some links, a picture is worth a thousand words...

Welcome aboard. If all else fails a tantrum and lots of swearing usually helps.soaking it in a good penetrating fluid and then getting busy with the hammer and punch comes a close second.
And lo, I did loft the front wheel and carried it forth to the unbelievers, and cast it down before them and said unto them ''look now upon the might of my throttle control ye pitiful cretinous ones''
And the unbelievers did quake in their boots....

Everything in moderation. You don't need to get the bearings red hot. Just warm to the touch should loosen them up enough to remove the bolt. Will still need to use the persuader (hammer) but it should come out. Since the bolt wont come out it's obvious you need new swing arm bearings so I wouldn't worry about the seals as those come in the bearing kit. Just make sure the carb is removed and there are no rubber lines in the range of the heat. As a precaution I would remove the gas tank if you haven't already. Hope this works for you.
