A few pics from Lucerne Valley, Ca
« on: January 06, 2010, 03:28:38 PM »
All,

These are a few pics from our annual trip out to Lucerne Valley after Christmas. We usually have a group of 30-40 people (lots of kids), and about 10 riders. We park right on the edge of the dry lake bed so the kids can ride bikes and chase the rockets that are launched every 30 minutes or so. (Some rockets are 5 feet, and reach 2000+ feet, so they don't often land very close to camp).

The riding here is varied. We do some single track, race truck roads, rock single track, and some lava hills. You can find easy riding, or some extremely challenging stuff.

Two of the pics are riding, and a couple are of the camp and rockets being launched at night. Next year I will take more pics of the riding.

Pic of part of the camp. You can see some of the rockets by the motor home.

This is one of the night rockets launching. This was hard to time, and I wish it had been a split second later.

The Suzuki in this pic blew a top end last year at Lucerne. The guy that rides it drove an hour back into town to get a piston, and we rebuilt it on the lake bed by Lantern light. It's been running great ever since.

Cougar Buttes?

We rode Soggy Lake just over a year ago.  Lotsa "entertainment".

If you like riding, shooting, and rocketeering?, there you might want to check this out.

The Marines Corps station at 29 palms is planning an expansion and would include Johnson Vallley (Lucerne Valley).  Being a vet myself I understand the importance of training, but also understand the lack of "legal" riding areas that are available to us in Southern California.  Losing JV would be an astronimcal loss of open area to recreational enthusiasts.  I hope they can figure out how to replace the land lost if it does go through.
