« on: November 09, 2009, 07:58:08 AM »
went to ride down in york, pa my friend decided to ride down the stream on his kx125 and my other friend on his yz80. well the dumb a** thought the whole stream was the same dept until it dropped from like 1foot of water to bout 5 feet. good thing the 125 was infront of the yz. the 125 took awhile to take out. and it took forever to start again after we drain out all the water and put new gas n spark plug. hopefully nxt time we go bac to ride i have my kx250 running by then. carb problems

Many moons ago I had an '86 KX500 that I would ride in the creeks. I would do same thing and end up giving the 500 CPR. I had it down pat.  I would prep the bike by taking the plug and air filter out. After putting it in 5th gear we would then would flip the bike upside down onto its handle bars, like you would a 10 speed bicycle. Then my buddies and I would spin the rear wheel for a few seconds maybe more. If you had an extra hand to hold the vent line on the tank you didn't even lose much gas. We would ring the air filter out and give it a quick blow dry with the exhaust of a running bike. The whole deal would take about 5 min. It would usually start in about 5 kicks as opposed to 30 min. of kicking...and we are talking about a KX500.

Rasta,
Thats funny.  I was once riding in a very fast flowing river with a friend (wide but only a few feet deep). He insisted on riding deeper and deeper until the current grabbed him and he and his bike were off tumbling downstream.  He looked like a big fishing lure, red bike and yellow gear tumbling down the stream.  We had to sprint down the far down the shore and wade it to grab him.

When un-drowning a bike lot of people forget the air filter.  If it has water in it then it makes the bike very hard to start since the engine draws in water vapour with the air.  I usually give it a quick rinse in some premix to displace the water.  Jfab, drying it in the exhaust is a good idea. Never thought of that. Cam.
