Thanks Riproost,
That's pretty Old-School for me, but we have some Old Timers that have been racing since then. I'm sure there are several guys that could rattle off some great stories about those hills, and I have probably heard some of them around the campfire, but none come to mind immediately. Guys like Bud Northrup, Tommy Rollins, and Keith Klett were definately there.
There is some chatter about reopening Metamora. Is that the one you mean? There has been a deal made to run Nationals at Devils Staircase for the next 4 or 5 years. (Formally Pro-Riders Only)
EDIT;
I often get asked how Amatuer Hillclimbing events are set-up. Its common knowledge to alot of people, but not to everyone, so here's the basics. The starting point is supposed to be in the neighborhood of 20 feet from the first set of lights that activate the timer. You can go anytime you're ready, after the hill is declared clear and safe by the Club Member working the Log. Some hills have boundaries some don't, but on every Hill, you have to go between both sets of lights for a recorded time. The bike has to go through the lights with at least one of your hands on the bars. A footage measurement is given to riders that fail to make the lights. The top lights are supposed to be around 20 feet from the crest of the hill. The lights resemble those by your garage door that sense something in the way. In the videos you can see them by the orange cones mounted on stakes. Oh yeah, hit the lights and your are given a footage. "No Time" You get two attempts at the hill. Noone gets to practice or work on the hill between the timing lights. There's most of it.
