alcohol carb mods

1alldave:
I am wondering if anyone out there has any experience setting up a KX500 for alcohol? I have a 99 KX500 I use for sand racing. It currently has a ported cyl. bored and plated to 88mm, bored PWK carb, Rad Valve, rev pipe, and as much compression as I was able to create. It barks hard, but I think alcohol is the next step

Paul:
The biggest mod for alcohol is the gaskets. The alki really dries them out so you'll need the special ones. My alki experience is with cars so I can't tell you where to look for the PWK ones  :?

Iwould get ahold of CT Racing, Eddie Sanders Racing or Trinity Racing.  They build drag quad motors.  I have a FTZ Racing Mikuni gas carb. on my KX500 motored Tecate 3 wheeler and it pulls long and hard!  Hope that helps.

1alldave:
You may be on track with the Mikuni carb. I am already running a 210 main jet at Dumont( 500ft above sea level), Keihen jets only go to 220. I think you have to come up with a way to increase float bowl capacity as well.

JBKX, Thanks for the input. I talked to a guy named Larry at FTZ, they offer a Mikuni set up for alcohol. I tried the same carb in a gas version just to see how it would mate wih the intake, throttle cable, and airboot. Only problem is with the intake boot. The Mikuni starts off as a 38mm, the stock PWK is 39.5 and the fit is sloppy in the intake boot. How did you get yours to fit tight? Thanks for the tip about FTZ, they seem like a good outfit
