new from Idaho
« on: March 29, 2009, 08:17:27 AM »
Greetings from southeast Idaho.  I love the site I have been treating it like a magazine (lots of reading) for about a year. I?m a 38, and have been riding dirt/street bikes off and on since the 80?s. My current dirt bike is the KX500. I am lucky enough to live 4 miles (.5 pavement) from national forest making it quite easy to ride from my house whenever I have time. Yesterday way my first ride of the year. We still have a lot of snow unfortunately, but the snow is retreating. Most of the trails here are technical single track (steep, rocky, roots, creeks). I seldom get into third gear here. St. Anthony sand dunes are a couple of hours north of me and offer plenty of space to get out of second gear. My bike (98) is mostly stock it has a home made Powernow, IMS pegs, tall gripper seat.  I just replaced the factory aluminum clutch plates its kinda new for being so old. Drop me a line if you live close. Happy riding.

Welcome to the site. I too am from southeast Idaho and live close to national forest. I ride a 1995 KX500 and a 2006 KX450F.  These two bikes really keep me humble.  I bleed green and love the power these two green monsters generate.  I haven't got my first ride in yet this year as the snow is still pretty low.  Maybe by Easter weekend.  Be safe and ride hard!

Welcome Grumpy, today should make you happier (weather). It sounds like you may live close to Poky? Some of the best trails are right out of that area. Have you ridden Robbers Roost out of McCammon? Lake Channel by AmFalls can be a fun place for early rides (sand & desert).
If schedules allow,, sounds like there is at least 3 from SE Idaho,, I'd try hard to break away almost anytime.

Yes finally some sun. Ya Robbers is North of me I hit the ?boundary? trail just south of Harkness canyon. Ridding from my house Robbers is about 25 min. The trails around Scout Mt. Are fun as well. Im not sure what its called, but if its about 15 miles west of American falls it could be the same place. Have you been out to AF this year? I don?t have bike transportation right now so I havent made it yet I bet is great though. When the snow melts we will have to get a ride in.

Sounds like a plan. Yea I've been over Robbers from both sides, and ridden all of Boundary, Scout Mt, and Black Canyon for many years. Can't wait for the snow to go. Be in touch.

Hey eric sounds like you are not so sol :-D. I can't think of a better place to have access to riding than Idaho (don't tell anybody though, St Anthony looks like a scene from Mad Max these days). I've been driving over to Boise area once in a while,,, excellent trails to the west. I mostly ride trails these days. Welcome to KXRiders outstanding information gathered here. What you riding?
