help/info needed 00-05 kx 250 engines please
« on: December 19, 2008, 02:44:40 AM »
hi
i am looking at the possability of running 2000-2005 kx 250 2 stroke in my 250 race/shifter kart.everyone else runs h***a but i want to be different and buck the trend,so i need your help.
the kart will be run on 1.5 to 2.5 mile tracks
what sort of power stock does the kx run at?
are the parts interchangeable between 00-05 motors?
are there any reliability issues ie cranks, gearboxes.a guy used to run a 98 kx250 motor but it kept breaking the gearbox.
has anyone used aftermarket ignition ie pvl sem selettra etc with success?
any help would be great,as i think this 'project' has got potential and have got approx 3 months to get ready cheers mick

Someone will probably know but maybe not much attention right now cause of Christmas? I have a question are you staying in a size class cause this website has a wealth of info on KX500 probably more than the KX250. Not that there is anything wrong with the 250. Good luck welcome to kxriders.

Ninja,
I think what most guys do to check parts swapping fitment (as far as engine  componants)  is to log on to kawasaki.com or one of many of the retailers who have a parts diagram and simply look-up the part#'s and cross reference them.

It would be nice to have some more 125 & 250 guys posting up,however it seems the 500 forums keep growing and the smaller bikes are hanging out somewhere else, for whatever reason.
 Good Luck,

Is that the same class as in europe with those streamlined karts than sometimes go faster than F1???

What about TM racing??? They build kart engine's!

I think the KX250 engine is on par with the CR250.  In later years 2002 - 2005 the KX has more HP but I am sure none of the engines you are competing against are stock so the stock hp is not a deciding factor. I say go for it.  Besides, with the info on this site you can make it really fast.  Also, since many are making 250/500 hybrids there should be lots of newer 250 engines available. Hope this helps. Cam.

ps I made a cart once with a 2cyl rotax snomobile engine. It was scary.
