Welcome to the best KX site ever in existance... I am from Albany, but live in western WA now. I too bought the mighty 500 for the Oregon dunes. Good luck with that '86... parts will be a b***h to find. But the green 500 is the big dune daddy! I was the fastest thing out every time at the dunes in Florence. After a few drags up comp hill against the people with thousands into their Banshees and 450s they wouldnt even line up next to me anymore.

Welcome. My first Kx500 was a 1986. It was a huge improvement over the '83 RM500 that I was riding.

It should definitely wind up. I dont know about the earlier years, but if the KIPS system is similar to the later years then make sure you research it (lots of info on here) and make sure that the KIPS system is clean, carbon free, and working properly. If not then your exhaust flow could be seriously impared at higher rpm's. The KIPS can make a night and day difference on these motors.

Welcome to the site. Your bike must be close to right if it wheelies and spins the tire. With help from the tips on this site, you should be able to get it dialed in and then nobody will line up to race you anymore. Thats ok being the king of the dunes aint all bad.
