1993 kdx 250
« on: April 06, 2008, 02:15:21 PM »
wondering about the 1993 kdx 250.  how is the power/ suspension and so on compared to a 2000 kx 250. someone around my area has one posted for $500. do ya think this would make a good woods weapon? this on just has a numberplate on the front, i thought that they had headlights? i'm looking to get something just to ride until i get my 2000 kx 250  put back togehter and also i want to use my kx 250 for track only and then use maybe something like the kdx for serious trail riding.

Well for starters 93 is the old style frame. It being a KDX it is made more for the woods. It isn't something you buy to start jumping with. It is becoming harder and harder to get parts for these.

the kdx was one of the best trail bikes ever made a 93 will need a little work but the 200 and 220 parts are the same and 2006 was the last year the kdx 200 was made the kdx has a lower power band and more steady excelleration with a wider gear ratio than the kx if your looking for a good trail bike you cant go wrong with a kdx.

called about the bike ( 1993 kdx 250) heres what they said.

1.) has new piston and rings
2.) is sleeved and bored to 300. did they come sleeved? they called it a big bore kit (haha)
3.) needs clutch cable but clutch still works
4.) motor sounds loud ( i think they meant internals) fresh topend old bottom doesn't sound good?
5.) has kx 500 plastics on it. my question is why? could this be a 500 and they just don't know it   that would be so frrrrrrrrrrrrrriigin sweet. if i go to look and it is i aint telling them and its mine!!!exhaust kind of looks 500 ish.
6.) connecting rod has some side play but no up and down? what is the service limit and how would i check it when i go to look. i think they are full of crap!!! bottom end is sure to be toast.
7.) selling for $500 but willing to negotiate to $400.
8.) when cold it take 15 kicks to get it started, then when warm it starts first kick?
9.) why would the swingarm be yellow?
is four hundred a good price  or not?  my theory is if it runs and i can rebuild it then it might be worth the 4 hundred. do i believe everything they said heck no but just might be a good second project woods bike.  thought these bikes came with headlights this one doesn't have one.

The KX 500 has an Aluminum rear subframe.  This one doesn't look like it does.  Also that pipe isn't as big as a 500's.
'97 PC800 + '96 KX 500 + '90 KDX 200 + 2000 XR50R (for the lil guy!)

The KDX did have lights. Power is not bad, but really wakes up when uncorcked. Pipe, silencer, jetting and remove the airbox cover. It didnt share anything with the 200/220 and the frame is differant from the same year KX's. The one your looking at has KX 500 side panels and possibly the rear fender. It was heavy compared to the same year 250 enduros from the other brands and steered a bit on the slow side due to the seat/tank. One complaint that I remember was that the tank was large and mounted too far back not letting the rider slide forward when cornering. The Yamaha WR250 suffered from the same problem. It was much easier to fix the yamaha by just putting a YZ seat and tank on it. Cant be done with the KDX, atleast not easily. My friend had a 92 KDX250 and it was a good reliable bike. He raced enduros on it and did well. The one in the picture looks pretty hammered, look it over real close if you decide to buy it.
A couple of 03 and 04 KXs, a few YZs, 3 PE 400s, a DR and a TS.
