Does it happen all the time or just everyonce in a while??? I know my 1991 does this too but it happens maybe once out of 75 kicks. Which is very rare since my bike starts first or second kick. I even bought a new kick start assembly but have not installed it because it happens so rarely. Too bad you dont live next door to me hehehe.

I have not tried this but.....I trust the source of the info

I was told the kx cure was to sharpen the engagement teeth slightly with a small file. They could also be undercut slightly at the same time.

I had kick starter problems on my KX500 so I don't know if this will help.

Look at and read the picture titled "Ratchet gear spring"
It sounds like the spring that pushes the ratchet gear into the ratchet may be weak.  Let us know how it goes.

Definately has to be something. It has happened to me a couple of times. Start by taking a good look at your parts. Once mine had a build up of sludgy oil, and the other the little plastic piece that holds the return spring was broke, but was hard to tell. Its no big deal, I guess, if it happens once, standing next to the truck, but a bunch of times during a race or at the bottom of raveen is. It will be an easy fix in the garage. Oh yeah, there's a real thin washer that goes on last. It goes between kicker and case. It is the only critical piece that can be hard to remember where it goes during reassembly. Good Luck

what year is your 125?

it sounds like you have a few teeth worn down and its time to replace the kick start ratchet gear.

i have a couple complete kick start assemblys for some 125's that i'll let go for cheap if they fit your bike.

pm me.
