I have been looking at a kx500 for a couple of weeks, and was not sure of the bike and what to look for in potential damage that a used bike inherits. This forum's search function helped a lot. I ended up getting the bike which is a 2002 model, and the only major damage that was done to it is the rear sprocket which is aluminum and worn badly, also the aluminum sub-frame has a broken cross member; but my dad will weld that up for me in a couple of hours. It is nice to know that this model bike was produced for so many years, and that parts used and new are easy to come by. By the way, the fellow I got it from left the entire bike stock and had only replaced the handle bars. I will post some pictures of the bike when it is put back together.
