I'm new here, from Logan UT
« on: June 08, 2007, 04:49:35 AM »
My name is Mike and I'm rather new here.  I have a 2002 KX-500 that I bought a year ago from a guy in Maryland who had made it street legal.  It still needs an e-line coil to provide adequate electrical power.  The 75W coil I installed won't even keep the battery charged, so I have to charge the battery before I go anywhere.  Its a fun bike and has a rad valve and gnarly pipe.  I may try the desert version or a PC platinum soon.  Anyway, I really like this site!

Welcome. Are you going to keep the bike street legal or go back to dirt?

Actually, I think it's too clean to take off road, so I will be looking for another one for the dirt as soon as I have a little extra cash to spend. I also have 3 CR-500s.  (Can I say that here?) Oh well, I like them all. Theyre all 2 stroke 500s, right?

Dirt bikes are dirt bikes regardless of color.

Mike, Yes you can say that.  In the sprit of motorcycling I accept them all.  I like Honda's also.  Having said that I did sell my Honda 400EX last night and today I bought a KRX 450F quad.  And yes I want a CR500AF next to my KX500.

Welcome and good luck with the K5 but it seems a shame to keep a K5 from the dirt.

Is it wheelie prone on the street?  I imagine that from 0 to 80mph nothing keeps up!

Just got my e-line coil recently, but the mounting nut was machined with the wrong threads so i'm waiting for a replacement to arrive.  As far as riding the bike on the street, its pretty easy to ride due to the tall gearing and the engine setup that i've got.  I still might swap the gnarly pipe for a PC platinum which i think would better complement the rad-valve and help the bike pull harder from the midrange on up. Half the fun of riding this bike on the street is watching people turn around to see where the noise is coming from.
