I desperately want to put the bike back together, but havn't got a clue what move to make next.

Rehone with some wet and dry ?

Get new ring ?

Please tell me why this cylinder looks like this, Sly's reply seemed to make sense to me, but in his own words he admitted to not being much of a motor head.

why did you tear down the motor in the firstplace???

i would get it honed/or bored and then  put in a new piston and rings but thats just me.....  but first...

i would take it to your local machine shop and have him look at it first...  it would be real costly to take a chance and put it all back together and then have something go really wrong with it!!!

its happend to me ....slow down,take your time, and you should have a more harmonious outcome....

It looks like the electrofusion or nikasil coating is starting to peel in places. I would get it replated.

Its just been remachined and replated,

Then the same shop sold me a piston kit for it ( Stan Stephens 2 Stroke Specialists )


I tore it down because it only had 103-105 psi of compression.

I think your back to square one. Have the company that plated the cylinder look at it. In some places the plating does look odd. Those making on your cylinder are not normal. Some thing was to tight(piston to cylinder wall) or the engine was not warmed up properly before w.o.t. Contact the company maybe they can help out with repair. If the plating looks to be defected the company should warranty that. One photo showed a wave or wrinkle in the plating.

Im not sure if this is common practice for all replaters, but I have sent several KX cyls. out and each time I sent one, I sent a new piston with them for proper sizing.
