Isn't the KX500 exhaust pipe outlet running high, causing the shock reservoir to be tilted downward?  Pretty much any KX250 shock in the last 17 years or so has the reservoir going up to keep from hitting the low-boy pipe mounting style.  Without test fitting one, I would say no, it won't work for that reason.

tried to fit, already have 1 from my 01 kx250 that crapped out on me. tried to fit it in the 500 and the pipe wont let it bolt in. the pipe hits the gas res. on the shock. really sucks too, cause I'm havin a hard time finding a rebuild kit for the 500 shock. :|

I have never heard of anyone selling a rebuild kit.  I have just always ordered the individual parts that are needed.

talked to the Kaw shp in Irving next to Cowboys stadium today, he said they have a shock piston seal kit that has all the other seals in it too. 97.00 in stock, and they'll service it with the recharge for 75.00 labor. so other than the bumper stop and gas bladdr that should do it.

WOW!  That sounds too high for the parts.

Have you checked out the Race Tech page?  It is $26 for an oil seal, dust seal and bushing, $15 for a bottom out bumper and $19 for a bumper.

the piston seal was the reason it was so high, besides the fact it was from the kaw dealer.
took it there today, and the shaft was pitted, and he said it would cause the new seal to leak in a short time all over again. so the 250 shock went in today, although with a little modification to the pipe courtesy of a ball peen hammer . but its in there and everything is bolted in. we'll see how it works.

Are you talking about the teflon wear band around the piston?  Those are around $10 or so usually.

If the shaft was pitted, then that is definitely a bad thing.  It would surely damge all the new seals and bushings.  A rechrome would be needed.

Good luck with the new one.
