New Guy with a Somewhat Interesting Bike
« on: February 04, 2007, 03:34:06 PM »
Hey, this seems like a really cool site.  Anyways, I'm from Colorado and I picked up my 500 about 2 months ago, well what was left of it.  I got a '94 that was completly dissasembled and missing the frame for 400 bucks.  After about a month I got the motor wedged into my '05 KX250F chassis.  Its still a work in progress but I actually did take it out for a ride before tearing it apart again to put the finishing touches on it, and it was awsome.  This site has already turned out to be a great source of information and hopefully more will come.

welcome to the site . i think its funny when i am at the local track talking to the guys on the 450s , they talk like they are the baddest bikes but when i mention a kx500 they seem a little scared  , i love it and i think its awesome that you guys are putting the monster powerplant ina 450f frame it must handle like a dream ...

I thougth I couldn't post pics until I had 10 posts, I guess it just means I can't put any in the gallery.  Anyways, here it is, this was taken right when I got it running, so its not very pretty yet :-D

Nice to meet you...  and with your input the site will keep on benefiting others as well.

Very nice looking bike you have been making.  The picture you posted caught me off gaurd,  the hammer looks like THOR should be weilding it... it looks huge.  Then I figured out that it was on a worktop and not on the ground...  very cool optical illusion.

I'm not sure what the wieght difference would be because when I got all the KX5 parts, there was no frame.  But when I modified the stock frame I over built the areas that I changed just to be safe, so I'd say the frame probably weighs anywhere form 2-4 pounds more than it did originally.

I have just sent Alan a scanned in magazine article (from a copy of the UK mag, Dirtbike rider that I found whilst having bit of a tidy up) about a 2000 KX250 with a 500 engine that Andrew Mcfarlane raced in Australia so with a bit of luck it will be for all to see.

Andrew Mcfarlane said he started both motos in the world motocross in third gear and even got the holeshot in the opener, Thats not to shabby for a "past it" dinosaur is it :-D

Its one of the rectangular tubed steel 250 frames so its older than any of the ones on this thread but those bikes are getting rather cheap to buy now...

My local Kawasaki dealer recently told me of a KX250/500 hybrid that one of the UK Pros wasn't allowed to use in the as theres no longer a 500 open class and 450s are the capacity limit in that particular race :x

Dang!  I dig your latest picture of the bike in the map!  Makes me think about making one for myself.  Good job,  love the colors and look.  Hows it running,  vibrations,  little bugs in the machine?
