FMF OR PRO CIRCUIT ???
« on: February 03, 2007, 04:34:56 PM »
I  am in need of a new pipe for my bike , the one i got(fmf fatty) has been split and repared a couple of times and now it has but another split . I m not sure what pipe would work best on my bike thinking of trying out pro circuit for a change , or maybe even a stock pipe . Does any body know what would be the best choice for mostly motox riding ... I have heard that the stock pipes work well on my bike (98kx250).

If it was my bike and a 250 I would get the FMF Gnarly pipe and turbine silencer.

They both come down to who likes who.. I've only put FMF on everything I own. I've purchased a few used with PC, but don't prefer them. I used to buy only the fatty, but now I get the Gnarly Rev or SST.

They are pretty much the same. Quality and all.

I don't know much about the difference in the silencers either. I think the turbine does give a little more low end and lower sound for the noise nazi's and it's forestry legal.

the silencer on my bike now is stock and i usually repack it once evry couple of months . But around here as every where i am sure the 2 stroke is slowly dissapearing so i kinda like it loud the people hating the noise can kiss my ass as far as i am concerned. with a fresh packed silencer my bike sounds great . I dont have that much against 4 strokes but i hat the way they sound , i miss the old days when 4 strokes where in the woods , I am just old school i geuss but i aint changing . nothing against all you thumper guys just not my cup of tea .

You don't say how your going to use the bike, woods riding, MX? First of all the 98 has a monster motor, if your going to the track, no doubt get the PC, it makes the bike a rocket, it has an explosive power band, if your going to the woods get the FMF it will, mellow out the monster motor.l

Depending on the FMF pipe used. If you use a fatty it doesn't mellow it out at all, but gives a little more juice down low and up top, making the "hit" not so bad up top.. Just a false feeling of power when there is no low then alot up top. FMF Gnarly does mellow it out quite alot, but if you get the Gnarly Rev or the SST pipe that changes alot.

As for the turbine vs. the powercore.. The powercore gives alot up top and is louder than the turbine.. The turbine has a spark arrestor in it and gives more bottom end.

If the pc pipe makes it hit harder than that or the fatty are my only 2 options aside of buying a used stock pipe off ebay . I dont want anything that will mellow the bike , i like the hang on for dear life power . what do guys think about a stock pipe , the only reason i ask is there is one on ebay for $50.00 that has been nickel plated and has no dents or cracks or blemishes for that matter and seems like a good deal . I  am not by any means complaining about the bikes power with the fatty but the last thing i want to do is get a pipe that will lessen the power that i am already used to , if anything like i said i want it to hit harder ... I dont mean to be a pain in the but with all these questions , but you guys seem pretty noligeable and i appriciate all the input so far ...

I like the FMF Gnarly pipes because the are supposed to be made from heavier metal! Since my KX has to drag my 220#s around an extra few ounces doesn't matter anyway!

I am going to buy a new pipe for my project kx 500 soon.  I want the bike to have an explosive midrange, with good toprange.  I don't care about lowend power because I will not use it very often.  What pipe should I get?  I have heard that the gnarly pipe gives you great low end but kills your toprange, and that the gnarly desert gives good low end and top end,but is not explosive in the midrange.  I have never tried anything procircuit before?

I've used both PC and FMF, on the 250 the pro circuit is best, irregardless which fmf pipe you use. Bill's makes a good pipe as well. If you want more power get another head, have it modified to use the Wiseco flat top piston, you won't believe the power increase, more than any porting job I've had done.

Generally I like PC. Nothing bad about FMF, you would probably be happy with either. However, i have heard bad things about the SST.

I am aware of them saying it burns up the top-end because of the small chamber. But, I have of yet experienced it..

As for the PC vs. FMF.. It's an argument that could go on forever. Go with what you think will suit you best and your budget. I piped my KX250 and in the end it was just that.. a 250. I was no faster on the track or the drag. It's all about the "bling" and moving power from 1 place to another... Any overall power improvements are slight.
