I run the dual stage boysens in my bike. Very happpy with them and the extra low end power.  The V force do make more low end power, but then cost quite a bit more.  The boysen dual-stage reeds are a great low-cost alternative to the V force. Cam.

I also run the boysen reeds, the pro series. They added a little more bottom and smoothed the throttle out.

SSMOKEM, which brand skid plate did you buy?  Do you have a glide plate or a skid plate?  I recently bought a new 2005 KX250, and I am looking at some options on various woods related products.

Has anyone seen any guards for the upper fork tubes?

I run a MSR skid plate with water pump cover and ignition cover protection. This thing is extra thick. Kxcam22, I think made some upper fork guards from PVC. Maybe he will log in and give us some more info.

Your stator plate should have timing marks located on it and on the crank case. Do you have a service manual for you bike?? Remove your ignition cover and look at the stator plate. It should have maybe one mark on it and three on the crank case. The center mark is standard timing and the upper mark is advance timing while the lower mark is re-tarding the timing, this is how I adjust the timing on my 500, check your service manaul if you have.

I made my skid plate and my fork guards.  The fork guards are made from PVC pipe from a plumbing shop. You could use ABS or any other plastic, the deciding factor was finding pipe with an ID that was slightly smaller than the OD of the upper fork tubes so that they snap on tightly.  I cut about 1" wide slots to make it easier to snap them on. Mine are painted black with Krylon plastic spray paint.  The paint has stayed on extrememly well (2 years now).  A very successful mod. Cam.

PS there are some pics in my gallery.

Many companies produce carbon fiber guards for the upper forks, they are light, durable and look trick.

I got mine from E-Line.  Fork and pipe protection.  I tested the pipe guard, not by choice, and it did it's job very well.

I also purchaced a new bike once.  The best thing I ever did was NOT TO MESS with anything.  98 KX 250, the most extreme part I had replaced was the fork springs.  Engine/reeds/exhaust/jetting all stock.  It becomes a Viscious Cycle once you start tinkering.  Play with the sprockets/suspension/protection.  The engineers behind these machines know a hell of alot more than we do.  Do you want to spend money? or do you want to ride?  That KX will eat up anything, any terrain you throw in it's path.

I race enduros on my 04 KX 250 which I bought as a leftover at the end of last year. I have done the following to it, these mods will apply to pretty much any bike.
Big tank, Clarke or IMS
V-Force
9 ounce Steahly fly wheel weight
Skid plate  (when I go to the rock runs)
Hand guards
E Line pipe guard
WER steering dampner
WER suspension revalve
Lights
ICO Checkmate computer
Ive used both the FMF Q and the Pro 296 silencers, both are quiet but I had durability issues with several Qs. In my opinion, the PC 296 is the way to go.
FMF Gnarly pipe, I do have a discontinued Enduro Engineering low end pipe that I havent tried yet
Of course some stuff in my list are enduro necessities and not needed for woods riding or hare scramble competition.
A couple of 03 and 04 KXs, a few YZs, 3 PE 400s, a DR and a TS.
