just wondering if anyone has or had added head lights to their 250 or 500????
what lighting coil did you use and what head lights???

there is not much to choose from, either 50watt or over $400.00 for a whole
new sidecover / flywheel  / stator..... and this stuff is not for all years either.

 Wizzy214, I use the Moose lighting coil, the threaded mounting holes are already are on my stator plate, however I did have to mill off about 4mm, otherwise the flywheel will hit the coil.  I used the  Moose voltage stabilizer and the Acerbis number plate that has two halogen bulbs behind a cool looking lense. This setup is  great to warn oncoming traffic and for  getting back to camp when riding late in the evening.  however if I  were going to frequently night ride or night ride fast, I would have to spend the  big bucks on the oversize alternator, HID lamps and HID helmet lamp.

On powerjet equipped KX 250s, its possible to run lights off of the powerjet coil. Steahly (the flywheel weight people) makes a kit that consists of a light switch, wiring and a UFO Twins or Acerbis DHH dual beam headlight for about $100 or so. You can only use one beam and the bulb has to be no larger than a 20W MR 16 bulb, which you can get at any Home Depot or like store.  I made my own "kit" for my 04 KX 250 as well as my friends 03. Its not bright enough for  night riding, but it can get you out of the woods in a pinch. I use a Acerbis LED taillight because of the low draw needed to power the light. I believe the powerjet coil only puts out around 25 watts.
 On my girlfriends 03 KX 250, I installed a E-Line lighting coil which has dual 100 watt leeds. This is definetly the way to go if you are planning on doing some night riding. Its pretty expensive at around $350 for the coil! :-o

Flyin' H~ Is your kit similar to the described steely kit? I only want/need  the very minimum to street tag the bike. Reason: trail connect only. No major street rides. Thx!Look forward to any solutions!

I patterned my "kit" after Steahly's. After buying a kit for my gf's 04 KX 250, I just copied it for my 04. Its simple and it cost about $10, excluding the price of the headlight, which I already had. Deals on lights could be had on Ebay. You tap into the white wire with the red tracer that goes to the powerjet regulator on the left side of the frame, just behind the steering head. Run the wire to a two position (on/off) toggle switch. Tractor Supply has some nice water proof switches. From there run a wire to the light. I used the CDI mounting bolt for a ground. For the taillight, I ground it to the fender mounting bolt by the left side seat bolt. I put a disconnect in the airbox and run the power wire up to the switch. The Acerbis LED taillight works well with this setup. When I bought Steahly's kit, they told me that they did not know if there would be any problems stemming from the use of the pj coil. The kit was designed mainly to get you through tech inspection at a enduro. I use mine only when needed.

I forgot to mention that if you want a brake light, Fredette Racing Products makes a switch that would work.

Thanks, I've also been interested in converting my 03 KX250 into an enduro legal bike.  Now I need to find out how to rig an odometer set up?  Someone earlier mentioned the Q silencers weren't that hot, just wondering if the regular turbine core works well.

I had problems with several Q's, the cores kept breaking. I switched to the P/C 296. I also had some problems with the FMF Turbine Cores, the core kept breaking as well. I think the P/C is built much better. There is a link in the KX 500 forum on how to build a inexpensive odo. I use a ICO Checkmate on my KXs. They are not cheap at 450-475 bucks. ICO does make a cheaper odo for around $120. Try Trail Tech also. Do you plan on racing any enduros?
