1982 KDX 450
« on: March 09, 2021, 04:38:37 AM »
Rebuilding my 1982 KDX 450 and cannot find an original piston. It already has a aftermarket barrel fitted with a now unknown discontinued ProX piston. Found a larger bore alternative from a jet ski that will work dimensionally but have no idea where to start with the piston window cutting as the new piston will obviously be a blank. Once bored to 83mm I will need to cut the piston but really dont want to screw it up as it is the only one of this size in South Africa and apparently ProX dont make this one anymore either. Anyone that can assist please.

JUST put the piston window in the same position as the other piston a machine shop will do this for you . At least you got a piston the same size , you can get custom piston made but it usually a run of 10 etc.I would check the weight of the new piston as well seeing it for a jet ski , you dont want it to be to different. And check clearance from piston to head clearance as well just in case.
