New Owner
« on: December 13, 2020, 04:39:22 AM »
Hey fellow Kawasaki owners. I joined the forum because I'm the proud new owner of a 99 KX500. Not my first dirt bike, I'm a 58 year-old man and have been riding since I was 8. This is however my first Kawasaki so wanted  to see if there were any things to be aware of and look out for. Like a petcock that takes pliers to turn on and off. I also have a Ducati street bike that I ride as well. I've had the KX for a little over three months and try to ride every weekend since I live in North Central Florida that's doable. Keeps me grinning ear to ear, love it. Thanks.

I still have the orignal pet cock on one of my k5 and it turns ok ,it might just need some tlc . With out going over to the work shop and start to swap parts im sure a later model pet cock , which are easier to turn will fit, i use a klx 110 pet cock on my kdx200 h for other reasons , it fits no dramas . i do know the steel tank kdx200 adr model pet cock will not fit any plastic kx , kdx ,klx tank. kawasaki are good for interchange ability between old and new models. There a few things to look out for on k5 but if you study this forum you be fine .

Hey thanks dino, the previous owner replaced the original tank with a Clark tank which is fine by me as it must hold over four gallons and where I ride here in Florida out in the forest means I get longer ride time. The previous owner told me the petcock was from the original tank so probably going to get a new one to replace it. The petcock works as is it's just a pain to turn on and off. Not certain if I can take it apart and clean it.
