99 KX250 project
« on: June 05, 2020, 09:03:46 AM »
Hey all, just picked up a 1999 KX250 project bike from a local shop (for 500 bucks couldn't pass that up!).  Engine and transmission are solid, just needs some TLC; plastics (Ebay!), countershaft seal (actually the o-rings were completely missing!), air box (had the wrong one on it), brake lever, carb mounting boot...just little stuff here and there.  It's coming together, just waiting on SLOW shipping to get parts here!

I will be going riding (mostly trail probably) with my 21yr old son on his '96 CR125 that he traded a TTR230 for.  Nothing super intense just a little father/son bonding!

I did have one question (maybe an intro isn't the right place for it)...this model year has that big ignition system capacitor, bout the size of a red bull can, that I can see from the diagrams in the service manual mounts somewhere on the right side of the subframe, but I cannot for the life of me figure out exactly where that thing is supposed to mount or what it mounts too.  It has a rubber sleeve around it with a slot that obviously slides over a tab somewhere, but where that tab is eludes me.  Anybody maybe got a picture of that.

Thanks, look forward to learning a lot!

Bill
