Hallo again to everyone at MXRiders.com!
Here are a couple of pics of an '87 KX500 (frame is anyway - according to what I've read) I bought about 2-3 months back.
Thanks to Umberto and Foxx4Beaver for some pointers.
All I've done so far is strip it so far, clean it, drain it, and look at it.
I haven't gone any further as I want to see if she starts.
One big problems will be (what I think is) the KDX200 exhaust, but wait until you see the carburettor.
I'd be ever so grateful for any comments and input, and of course advice in the future - especially with identifying parts fitted.
I can only apparently post two pics at once so there's more to follow.

Foxx4Beaver, thanks. I might have one or two. The bike's in my kitchen and turning it round is a pain - these house were originally built by the conquistadores but have been partitioned up to rent.

Someone (on this site I think) said he tried to get his Mikuni IDd but was told by Mikuni it was a one off for Kawasaki. I couldn't ID the stamps on it but it's a 38 (wait until you see what you called a "Mexican Modification"!).

That motor appears to be an 86-88.  The 88 was not black, but it might have been painted.  Those year motors had the bolt on coolant elbow on the left side of the head.

That carb is really bad.  It's going to need a lot of TLC for sure.

Mmnn - anyone can tell me what I did wrong there - or how to right it?

OK, Umberto, so it looks definitely like an 86-88 as it's got the coolant elbow on the LHS of the head.
Still having some issues as you can see!
