Gear Oil?

<< < (2/4) > >>

hughes:
I am going to run full ATF this weekend without the bel-ray mix.

Timbowe:
I've heard a few bad stories about the ATF being run in bikes lately. Any one else? Good oil is cheap in the long run...

beastrider500:
Castrol GTX 10W40. It's cheap enough to change after every ride and seems to work quite well.

I ran full atf this weekend with no clutch problems. If you think about what goes on in auto transmission with all the moving parts and gears it should be o.k for a simple gear box and clutch. The bel ray looks and smells just like AFT. My clutch acts up if I use standard 10w-40. The gear saver and the AFT seem to work the same for my clutch with no slipping. I just think AFT should have more shear strength then anything else. I change it after every ride(still using Alum. plates in clutch).

Just update. I have been using ATF now for about the last 20 hours with exl. clutch operation and butter smooth gear shifting. I am using ATF type F which doesn't have all the friction mods. I have spoken with several people out at the track and alot of people are using ATF. I spoke with a local bike tuner that preps. race bike for racers and he using ATF type F. This stuff is less than $1.50 a quart at wal-mart.
