Arigato:
I started with a knife as well.  Then pictured myself doing the same thing. I ended up using a pair of stout scissors for all of it except the extrusion things that block the seat.  I used a hacksaw for those.

gowen:
I just used a bench grinder. It worked great. :-)

Arigato:
I used a grinder/wire wheel on my friend's KX500 in his garage.  It worked very well and made a  huge mess,  but it wasn't my garage.

gowen:
Wow, that is one hot 500. Yes, it made a big mess. But, nothing vacuume couldn't fix. Hey, what year is that fuel tank?

Arigato:
It's a Clarke for a '99.  You can get them in all kinds of colors.
