Gap between seat and air box.
hughes:
Hey Guy's
I have notice that my 87 500 has about 1/2 air gap between the seat and the top of the air box. I have also notice that my rear tire can sling dirt around the sides of the air box and onto the top of my air box and may be sucked into the air filter. I was thinking about adding foam to the top of the air box so when the seat in place there would be sealed area between the seat and air box. Each time I remove my seat there seems to be alot of dirt thrown on top of the air box. I was just looking at a way to help the fitler stay cleaner longer. What do ya'll think.

What about filterskinz or filterskins :?
Never tried em (don't often ride in deep mud  ) but they might help.
TomL:
Or put a piece of screen or panty hose over the airbox!

Good idea's guy's.

Hughes,
I have never owned a dirt bike that I did not fill that gap with duct tape. Keeps quite a bit of mud out of the airbox. I normally tape the frame tubes to the airbox and rear fender to seal the gaps and keep the mud from the rear tire out of the airbox. As a rule of thumb, with the seat off you shouldn't be able to see the rear tire through any gaps between the frame and sidepanels. Can post a pic if you need it. Hope this helps. Cam.
