New To The Board. Green For Years
« on: April 28, 2014, 03:17:47 PM »
Greetings:
New here, but have been around KX's my entire motorcycling life (31 years). My first KX was a new 83 125 purchased from NY Kawasaki on Jamaica Ave in Queens circa 1984. Long gone and long missed. About 3 years ago my nostalgic longing turned into compulsive searching, resulting in my garage, shed, and basement being transformed into a refuge for wayward KX's: 82 125 (Colorado), 83 125 (New Jersey), 84 125 (Indiana), 83 250 (New York), 88 250 (Michigan), and 85 KX500 (Illinois). I've vowed to close the doors once a 84 250 and 89 125 find safe haven... But who knows, A4/A5s occasionally seek refuge too!

The 83 and 84 125s have been restored/rebuilt to ride and vintage race . The 83 250 and 85 500 are current projects. 82 and 88 are resting comfortably, maybe I will wake them next winter.  The 250 rebuild is going fairly smooth and should be complete in may. The 500 has been a bit more difficult. Was hoping to have the 500 ready for the 2014 Rewind at Unadilla, but ran into too many problems after tearing it down. Amazing how, "Fast, runs great" on Craigslist equates to dangerously lean, totally worn, and scary to ride, because there is no oil in the fork or shock (it's all on the brake rotor!)...  Anyway, that is part of the excitement I guess, the hunt and discovery phase; emotional.

I've posted a question regarding the 500's idle gear in the "500 original" forum. Hoping someone could enlighten me on an idler gear parts swap.

I look forward to dishing on pre-90 KX's!
Cheers,
Jason

Hey Jason.
Welcome to the forum.
Another famous Craigslist line is, "Just needs the carb adjusted" or "Way too fast for me"
Yeah, seen them all  :x
That's a cool project.
I saw your other post but I don't have a answer for you.
But I know there is someone here who does  8-)
Don't be afraid to post some pics, or use the search feature

The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

1984 KX125 post rebuild: had to leave the Tuf stickers on, they were too cool to remove. Love original period patina.
New fender and shroud decals inspired by Ward's 84 SR125

First Ride, September 2013

This is fun...

Funny. That perspective makes the tire look really small. It's a 120/90-18 Michelin S12... :-o

1983 KX125 B2: This was my first motorcycle (not this particular one, but a B2). After 5 years of looking I finally found one worth buying in NJ last November.
Been in the shed since, yet to ride it. Very soon...

Nice,
Sweet lookin ride...

Thanks. I have not touched. The guy I got it from built it for his local vintage MX series in 07. It was only ridden a couple times then he got a 250 and the 125 went into storage. I was pretty excited to get it!
