steel frame head mounts
« on: January 24, 2014, 12:00:00 PM »
Hey all,
Just was looking to see if someone could offer up some fresh inspiration for a head mount on a 99-02 250/500 conversion.
I have an idea in mind, but I would like to see what others have come up with.
I know in the past there were a couple photos floating around on sf builds.
Anybody got anything cool? billet? a cad drawing?

This is the mount you can get from JFAB.

It was made for a steel frame conversion.
I adapted it for my AF/
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

Thats very close to what I was planning on doing.
I had saw something similar posted here a few years ago.
My only issue is that I'm using the 86-88 motor in this build.
I do like that bracket that could be welded onto the frame,if it was steel, I would just have to adapt the plate to the hole pattern on the heads of the 86-88's.

Yeah, I was also  thinking it would be best to make use of the two stock holes. I don't have any nice square tubing at that point on the frame to weld one of those style mounts on.

I just got the unassembled kit from JFAB today. Very nice work. Waiting for the weather to warm up to continue. I will give you more info once I get some time to test fit it and assemble it.

That helps out quite a bit.
I had started making a mount very similar to that, but I like your idea better,
I was having a hard time visualizing how to match the piece of steel on the head to the triangle mounts on the frame without looking like crap.

Thanks a bunch

2000 Kx250

Is the mount going to be welded onto the frame or bolted?
I'd love to weld it but not any decent flat steel to weld to because of where the 250 motor mounts land.

oh i had a long head scratching session beside the bike, till i came to that point . little bit inspired from the j-fab mount kit, but this is only available for the newer engine  and not useable for the 86-88 cylinderhead ..

Yeah, its one of the things I've been putting off the longest.
It's the last thing I have to do before the powder coat.
