KX 250 engine questions.
« on: August 14, 2013, 10:41:12 AM »
hello , My first post here, I have a question regarding an engine I am rebuilding , it is a kx/kdx 250 , I have a new piston here for it but it is not piston ported like the old one is . I know that the ported piston is a performance thing but I would like to see this thing run , I am not concerned about perfomance. the new piston is a wiseco 68.50 mm piston , overbore of course. I dont really see why I cant run the piston unported but if need be I will have it ported seeing as how there is lots of meat on it.
thanks for any help. much appreciated.

Hello Joey.
Welcome o the site.
The KDX had a windowed piston as well as the kx250 of the same vintage.
I guess where I'm going with this is to verify what engine and cylinder you are running.
I'm not saying that your engine won't run without a windowed piston but it will decrease your power.
If you post your Engine ID and the 4 digit cylinder number we can better answer your question.
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

well , in my fury of thinking I was sent a piston without windows, I looked again and I guess the windows on the intake side magically appeared, I guess I just lloked at the exh. side when I pulled it out of the bag and dont know why i didnt check the int. side. the only weird thing is, there are no cut outs for the transfers around the wrist pin.
