problems with rear swing arm

Hi guys,

I have just reconditioned my swing arm {1998 kx125 } and after putting the inner bearing sleeve in position I noticed it sticking out too far ! I got My spare broken swing arm and compared them , they both are different and I dont know what to do , the one I reconditioned was on the frame when I got it.

Can I just get the sleeve machined smaller and just fit a bush when engine is located on shaft/pin ?

Can anyone identify why they are different ?

do you still have the old sleeve that came out?...if so,you can either machine it to the right length...or bring it back to your Kawie dealer and have them match it up for the correct one....either way,it's an easy fix.


be sure to find out exactly what years your swing arms are??...you obviously ended up with a different year set of sleeves for the wrong swingarm.

The one on the left is newer and looks similar to a 98.
The one on the right could be older but there is not enough there to correctly ID it.
If you post enough pics we might be able to ID it.

lets do it in the right light...  the left swing arm is like the kx-swingarms 93 and older..  swingarm in the right pic is 94 and newer with the bigger bearings und bushings ... sandblasters swingarm is the bigger profiled, that came in ´97 and used up to 2002 kx-models..

 i could it identify much better with pics of the complete swingarms for seeing more of the diferences.

managed to work out how to use the older one which I restored, the newer one is destroyed on one side , I have managed to use the bearing kit for the newer arm on the older one that im using  :-)

is there a special tool to tighten the shaft nut ? any socket I have is to large outside diameter to fit in the frame recess where the nut is  :roll:

I had the same issue a few years ago....after going through all my metric sockets and not finding one that worked...I switched over to my American toolbox...where I had/have a set of thin walled Snap-On deep sockets....and the 7/8" ended up fitting perfectly into the frame and on the nut....no slippage while torquing to 68ish ftlbs.

AHHH ! I went through all my sockets but just the standard snap on hex , abit too chunky ! I think I have a couple of thin walled sockets for alloy wheels so I'll try them but think they are 17 and 19 !
cheers I thought I had a nut that was too large or something  :-)
